HOUSE PARENTS

We are looking for a married couple (or family) that is  PASSIONATE about their Christian faith and is CALLED to helping single mothers as they CHOOSE LIFE for their baby.

As Houseparents, you'll have the opportunity to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for expectant mothers. You'll play a crucial role in empowering women transition into parenthood with confidence. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:
The Maternity Home Houseparents are compassionate and passionate about making a difference in the lives of young mothers and their babies. They aim to create a safe, stable, and nurturing home for single mothers and their in-house staff team. They aim to be firm but loving in relationships (realizing many women will come with problems associated with men, authority, and deep hurts) through friendship, mentorship, practical support, and providing a model of a family that strives to pursue and glorify Christ - walking in Christian character in accordance with Biblical principles. The houseparents play a crucial role in helping the young women transition into parenthood with confidence and empowerment.

They work closely with the New Beginnings Homes staff team to help implement the policies and goals set forth by the Ministry Directors.

Overview

This description is written for a husband & wife team whom will report to Ministry Directors. The team will over see Maternity Home Staff Assistant and Maternity Home Residents. (6 Max)

Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly Prayer & Updates Staff Meetings

  • Communicate clearly and regularly with Ministry Directors and other staff members in order to provide comprehensive care to the women

  • Responsible for day-to-day operation and management of the maternity home including care of the residents, administrative tasks, household budget, and support of the Maternity Home staff team.

  • Provide support and utilize the Maternity Staff team to meet the needs of residents including:

    • Providing spiritual support, mentorship, and encouragement

    • Assist residents in getting set up with local resources to meet personal goals

    • Help residents establish support systems for during and after pregnancy

    • Provide transportation for residents for all pregnancy-related appointments

    • Help residents prepare for labor and delivery and provide support for moms during labor and delivery

    • Integrate the women into family life by being available to them, providing them with household responsibilities, and planning fun weekly activities​​

Other Responsibilities:

  • Minister to boyfriends and/or birth fathers and parents as opportunities arise (husband only)

  • The houseparents support those they oversee by being available to provide encouragement, advice, and feedback so their team can effectively minister to the women in their care 

  • Attend workshops or conferences that are recommended to increase skills and staff development.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Savior and exhibits Christian Character

  • Completion of a YWAM Discipleship Training School (or plans to compete by an agreed upon date)

  • Able to communicate effectively and positively in both written and verbal communication

  • Experience working with expectant/single mothers and teens

  • Experience overseeing a team and working in teams

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Have a neutral stance on adoption vs. single parenting.

  • Positive personal experience with parenting

  • Have no criminal record or recent history of drug or alcohol involvement.

Length of Commitment/ Hours:

  • At least two years or more to start out. With hopeful extensions in yearly increments

  • Living in ministry means that oftentimes you are “working” outside your normal hours please have a flexible attitude with this. Time off to rest and rejuvenate will be given. Generally, hours are 9am to 8pm with 2 days off a week and some nights on as well. The house mom may be on call to assist with labor and delivery as needed.

​​Salary & Benefits: 

  • This is a volunteer position. Housing and meals as well as a vehicle to be used for ministry purposes are provided at no cost Maternity House staff). All missionaries who have been through a DTS with Youth With A Mission (and commit at least 2 years to the ministry) have the opportunity to raise their support through the ministry. They are responsible for maintaining contact with their personal support team and fundraising to support family in ministry.

 

Evaluation:

  • Regular feedback will be provided. Houseparents will meet weekly with the Ministry Directors and be evaluated at 30 days, 90 days, and every 6 months thereafter. Ministry Directors are available at any time to discuss concerns, provide encouragement or support, and give advice if needed
